Today I got a nice surprise: a small box appeared in my mail that contained several hundred bookmarks advertizing my book. I also received 50 copies of my book in lieu of royalties. Anybody want to but a book? Order directly from me or visit your indpendent bookstore and tell them to order it.

Westminster Abbey, London

Westminster

It cost us 12 pounds to get in. My highlights: walking past the tomb of Elizabeth I, touching the tomb of Chaucer, seeing the memorial to the WWI poets, and seeing the burial spot of the unknown soldier. We went on August 18.

New Publications

with one comment

Two poems went up on blue skies, an online literary magazine, today: “Noticed” and “Pump Jacks.” These poems will appear in a special Writing the Land anthology at the end of the month, to be launched at the Writers’ Guild of Alberta AGM in Grande Prairie.

I’ve seen a .pdf preview of the cover and it looks good. Here’s a blurb:

See the land around us with new eyes, as some of Alberta’s finest poets explore the magnificent and diverse landscape of our province, and how we interact with it. From the tar sands in the north, to the towering Rockies, to the grasslands of the south – not to mention the rich farmland, prairies, boreal forests, coulees and wandering rivers in-between – this land and its resources have shaped and continue to influence the history, culture, and economy of Alberta.

Back from Whitehorse

Got in last night at about midnight. The drive from the airpoort was fine until Legal. Lots of fog afterward. While up there, I heard Bookninja was having a contest, so I entered a shot of me standing over Miles Canyon. George chose my photo and posted it today.

What does My Birthday Mean?

without comments

Your Birthdate: July 22

You tend to be understated and under appreciated.
You have a hidden force to do amazing things, doing them your own way.
People may see you as strange and shy, but they know little.
Your unconventional ways have more power than they (and even you) know.

Your strength: Standing up for what you know is true

Your weakness: You tend to be picky and rigid

Your power color: Silver

Your power symbol: Square

Your power month: April

9e Arrondissement, Here We Come

without comments

Our Paris trip became more of a reality today: we booked our airfare and rented a flat for two weeks (May 30 – June 13) in the 9e arrondissement close to Monmartre. It’s only 18 sq. metres, but it has a balcony and the owner is lending us a crib and high chair for Wyatt. I’ve already got a list of bookstores to hit!
