Cheeko, 1994-2006

Cheeko died last Tuesday. The vet thought his heart gave out. That or a tumor burst near his heart. Either way it was really serious and we decided to put him to sleep.

In other news, at about the same time last week I got a rejection from Gaspereau Press re: my manuscript. However, they said they did want to publish the best 10 or 12 poems in their Devil’s Whim Chapbook series. I’m going to be #16. I got the contract yesterday. Expect a book with my very own ISBN number in the Fall. It’s going to be titled Defining Range.

National Book Critics Circle

Winners announced here. The poetry winner is Jack Gilbert for Refusing Heaven. It’s a book I bought back in January and highly recommend to the poet-types who read this blog. I’ve always been a fan of Doctorow, but I haven’t got around to reading his latest.

Anyone know how this award works? I’m intrigued by a “critic’s circle.”
