Cheeko, 1994-2006

with 6 comments

Cheeko died last Tuesday. The vet thought his heart gave out. That or a tumor burst near his heart. Either way it was really serious and we decided to put him to sleep.

In other news, at about the same time last week I got a rejection from Gaspereau Press re: my manuscript. However, they said they did want to publish the best 10 or 12 poems in their Devil’s Whim Chapbook series. I’m going to be #16. I got the contract yesterday. Expect a book with my very own ISBN number in the Fall. It’s going to be titled Defining Range.

  1. What a handsome dog. What am I going to do without him following me loyally from room to room to room?

I guess I’ll have to wait patiently until the baby comes, learns to walk, and starts to follow me from room to room to room.

  2. Ian and Sherry,

Terribly sorry to hear about Cheeko. Dogs are particularly hard pets to lose. But twelve years is a pretty good life span for a pooch.

Ian—well done on the chapbook publication. I’ll look for it when it comes out.

Sherry—umm, are you pregnant? If so, congrats. If not, I wonder what baby you’re talking about…

  3. Hi Ryan,

Yes, it’s true, I am pregnant. The baby is due in September.

    Sherry.

  4. Thanks, Ryan. Yeah, he had a pretty good life. He was happy up until the last couple of hours.

Sherry and I are on our way to New Brunswick next week with a weekend in Fredericton planned. Haven’t been back since September 04.

Oh and I’m super excited about the chapbook.

  5. Sweet news about the chapbook. I think you told me already. I was going to write you a letter, then I got deluged with meetings. Yes, meetings. Coaching meetings, exam meetings, band meetings. Well, not really band meetings, but jams with dudes.

I’m glad you put a picture of Cheeko up there. I’ve got a photo of him on the fridge (with Milo). How is Milo, btw?

Sherry: hope all is well in pregnant land!

  6. John,

All is well now that the first trimester has passed, and the nausea, fatigue, headaches, and moodiness associated with it!

I am a new person now that week 15 has hit.

    Take care,

    Sherry
